About Lucy

Experience

I’ve worked as a career guidance professional since January 2011.

Moving from a career in non-profit project management, I joined the University of Oxford Careers Service as a Careers Adviser. In four years at the service I worked on a range of industry areas, supporting students, researchers and alumni in Mathematics, Computer science, Engineering, Fine Art, English, and Law.

In 2015 I moved service to manage the Careers Consultant team at the University of Reading. Alongside wider service responsibilities (including curriculum support and teaching for employability) I supported students and alumni in Politics, Economics and Law.

In 2018 I went freelance and since then I’ve worked with many private clients and institutions including: University of Oxford, University of Reading, London School of Economics, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Brunel University, University of London School of Advanced Study, Techne Doctoral Training Partnership, Central School of Speech and Drama and St George’s University of London.

Specialisms and knowledge base

I am a generalist careers adviser. Much of my work has been at graduate or professional level and so, as needed, I do additional research on career areas I’m less familiar with.

Projects I’ve worked on recently include

  • A online careers education tool for school leavers
  • An information resource on careers in Special Effects
  • A careers mapping tool to illustrate role in global public health
  • Interview preparation for final year medical students
  • Video guidance resources for the Central School of Speech and Drama
  • Career coaching for PhD students in arts and humanities
  • Career planning workshop for early career librarians

Eclectic!
